Amazing ActionScript 3.0

as3_roxik.jpgAmazing sample of ActionScript 3.0 was shown on Adobe CS3 Web Edition Tour made by roxik, author of very well known Pictaps. You MUST see this. I have to say, this is incredible thing, incredible performance and… I have no idea how he made that. ;) Try using “+” button, the performance doesn’t change even with 3k balls on the scene, again… amazing.

If anybody understands what they have written there please give us some info.

Our Type

Our Type

Founded in year 2002 Our Type is a type foundry from Belgium, managed by three designers: Fred Smeijers, Corina Cotorobai and Rudy Geeraerts. Great fonts like Neue Sans, Fresco or Sansa are totally worth recommendation. Site done a while ago by Group 94. Like all their productions is clean and functional. Nothing more, nothing less. I like it.

AirPress - AIR WordPress client

AirPressOne more example of AIR application - AirPress 0.3 beta. It’s an interesting client for WordPress and much less popular - DotClear. You might wonder why do I need a desktop client for my blog? Problems with internet connection - have to work off-line sometimes. Is it just administration panel or something different? AirPress has only a part of WordPress’s panel functionality, what makes current version of AirPress rather something worth to check to satisfy your curiosity, rather than a useful application. One thing that seems to be an advantage is how quickly it is possible to publish multimedia files. You can just drag files to editor or record something from camera and make it all done in a seconds. Maybe it will be quite good solution for someone who has video or photo blog and just want to quickly share his “memories” with friends…

Stay Alive is another new wallpaper made for The FWA visitors. You can download it - here. It took me some time to finish this one. Basically I did it like my other works - primarily in Adobe Photoshop and loads of different stock photography, no 3D involved. Hope you enjoy.

DigiMix another Adobe AIR application

Everything what concerns Adobe AIR, formerly known as Apollo, is in beta but despite this amount of applications already done or announced using AIR amazingly increasing. So now it seems that AIR will compete successfully with Dekoh or WPF and at least not share sad end of it’s precursor Macromedia Central.
Recently I have found on Rayan Taylor’s blog an article about nice application for mixing sounds made in AIR and Flex. In DigiMix you can put some sounds loaded from your disc on different tracks, trim beginning or the end, add some effects and finally save your project or even compile one wave file on disc.DigMix screenshotDigiMix has some limitations eg number of loaded files and it accepts only 16bit 44,1kHz wave format, but this is beta, and what is essential - it works with wave files natively not supported by Flash. This application truly shows capabilities of Action Script 3 and AIR.
For those who know almost nothing about AIR this is a technology which allows you to develop cross platform desktop applications. To run the application, which has .air extension, first you need to download and install AIR runtime environment. For now AIR is accessible only for Windows and Macintosh. There is also beta update to Flash CS3 which allows to package and preview AIR. I think that final release will much more popularize this technology. At last, remember everything is in beta ;)

GO Animation System

GO Animation SystemMoses Gunesch is an author of a very popular animation system for Action Script 2 (The Fuse Kit) and has just posted on his blog some information about new project called Go. This is not Action Script 3 Fuse implementation, it is something completely new - light framework for creating your own animation tools. Go is a very extensible so it allows you to use “tweening, physics and 3D together”. Public beta very soon, for now you can become familiar with the whole idea.

Flash gallery

It’s nice to know that you like our flash gallery. We’ve shared it with you guys here but many of you still write to us. You can download it from here. Remember that this gallery requires specially prepared XML which is provided by SimpleViewer gallery plugin for WordPress. All you have to do is to change viewer.swf file (in the plugin folder on your server) for our viewer.swf.

Also you have to know that we on Ars Thanea use classes folder for our… classes files. ;) Remember to change classpath in your Flash properties (Edit -> Preferences -> ActionScript3 settings) to compile our gallery correctly. As I said, we’re happy that you like this gallery but also try to understand that we’re not able to respond for all your e-mails asking us “how to….” or “can you…”. We give you this gallery as it is, if it’s not working for you - try to make it work :).

The Styles

The Styles is a new funky product from guys over People Like Us Style. They are available for different iPod sizes, generations and made from a non-destructive adhesive (they won’t hurt your iPod). The Styles completely protect your iPod from scratching, scuffing and dust. First show includes the works of No Pattern, Electric Heat, Shinybinary, 013a and myself among others. For some more photos or information you can go here.

It was fun - it’s actually always fun to use your stuff anywhere on something material, not only pixels on the screen. I have received some samples few days back and it’s looking very sweet even when I have an old iPod. Totally good way to refresh an old look.
