Nokia Trends Lab is a series of experiments designed to support our creativity. NTL connects estabilished artists with up-and-coming local talent to co-create multimedia projects across various European locations. In the end a live performance will take place in each of participating country.
In close colaboration with K2 Internet we prepared polish site for this international event.
The goal was: To create interesting and innovative in visual layer site, where visiting users can share their ideas and thoughts in each Lab.
3D objects sketches
Each section: DJ, Photo, Film, VJ, Fashion and Orange has its own 3D visualization created from users thoughts. They could add their own comments and take a part of creating NTL community. The 3D blocks can morph into objects symbolizing each of Labs. We’ve made some sketches:
Prototype of 3D
Each visualization consist of 25 objects floating in the space. Each of the object is created by users who leave their idea about Lab. 3D object is fully functional. When you move mouse over it split into 25 blocks (entries). You can also rotate object with your mouse, add your own comment and share it with the others.
You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player.

Pawel Piotrzkowski: First, we were thinking about using Papervision3D for this project but this would be unnecessary because the shapes are simple and we needed only vector graphics. I decided to write a simple engine and implement only one 3D object, that is cube. It was enough to draw those “crystals” because they are also built by 8 points so we could use a simple algorithm to draw them. This solution was probably more efficient than Papervision3D used for drawing vector graphics with alpha channel (I say probably because to be honest we made only a few tests and maybe Papervision3D would be also good for our project but we hadn’t much time for experiments).
When user move the mouse out of the 3D objects it changes to different shape like photo camera or phone. It was an idea to make user feel like they are a part of this project, their thoughts and ideas are those small parts, atoms of every Lab.
